Versailles at L'Alliance
On July 23, we'll be taking over L'Alliance New York - the gorgeous midtown bastion of French culture - and presenting the Versailles Royal Opera Orchestra conducted by Stefan Plewniak in a full 90 minutes of Bel Canto magic with the great countertenor Franco Fagioli, also making his New York Debut.
Entitled "Arias for Velluti, The Last Castrato", the program centers around Giovanni Battista Velluti, generally considered the last great Castrato, and features music by Rossini, Nicolini, Bonfichi, Zingarelli, Mercadante and more. You can find details on the full program below, and listen to some of the music on Fagioli's just-released album HERE. Though rest assured, it's going to be some absolutely world-class opera action.
Because we never want you to go into a concert suffering from dehydration or starvation, we'll also be having a pre-concert reception (included in the ticket price) that includes wines by the acclaimed Bouchaine Vineyards, zero-proof libations by Curious Elixirs, and a selection of charcuterie and more. It'll get you exactly where you need to be to fully luxuriate in the glorious sounds of Versailles.
That said, if you're as wild and untamable as we are here at Death of Classical, and you'll settle for nothing less than the absolute best, then we humbly offer you to consider...
The Louis XIV Experience
A select number of higher-priced tickets will offer the full "Louis XIV Experience" - taking everything about the evening and cranking it up to 11, for a fête worthy of the Sun King himself.
The experience includes:
- SEPARATE PRE-SHOW RECEPTION - You'll join us in L'Alliance's sun-drenched top-floor room "Le Skyroom" (it's as magnifique as its name), for some fine wine and pre-show charcuterie.
- PREMIUM SEATING - You'll have access to the best seats in the house for the concert itself, so you don't miss a single detail of the performance.
- POST-SHOW SALON EXPERIENCE - following the concert, we'll take a short summer night stroll up Fifth avenue to the gorgeous Freeman’s | Hindman New York Auctions Townhouse, where we'll enjoy some of Bouchaine Vineyard's finest wines, cocktails by Via Carota, zero-proof libations by Curious Elixirs, and a veritable smorgasbord of Versailles-inspired cuisine curated by Wild Hare Catering. In addition to the top-shelf food and drink, fine art, furniture, and jewelery, you'll also get to hear intimate performances by Foreshadow Shadow Puppetry, a music and dance set by soprano Ariadne Greif, countertenor Eric Brenner, dancer Liana Zhen-ai, and theorbist Dušan Balarin, and baroque ensemble Elliott Figg, Jude Ziliak, and more.
Get your tickets HERE and we'll see you for this once-in-a-lifetime, historic moment of musical unity, as Versailles comes to New York, Death of Classical-style!
