The Crypt under the Cathedral of St. John the Divine

1047 Amsterdam Ave New York, NY 10025

Death of Classical and St. John the Divine proudly continue their partnership following two sold-out and critically acclaimed concert series in the unfinished crypt under the cathedral - a space seldom open to the general public. In 2024, the inaugural series featured Trinity Church’s acclaimed ensemble, NOVUS, across 3 evenings of music. In 2025, the series returned with Relics and Martyrs, highlighted by a new cantata from composer and double bassist, Doug Balliett, performed by the vocal group The New Consort and chamber ensemble Theotokos. Each performance includes a pre-concert reception with wine and food in the spectacular main space of the Cathedral, followed by a walk through the stone quarry before descending to the Crypt.
